Description (coed ages 6-14)
This is a recreational and developmental soccer camp. Many players and teams find the progression from recreational programs to NCSL/WAGS a significant challenge. This camp aims to prepare players who are interested in joining these leagues in the future. The emphasis is on player skill development, as well as gaining experience by playing small sided scrimmages in a summer camp environment. Campers also play age appropriate soccer related games and activities that help develop skills in a fun setting.
Campers get introduced to futsal (Brazilian indoor soccer). Playing futsal results in accelerated skills development because of the increased number of touches they get on the ball. This is because of the unique ball that is used (heavier and smaller then a regular soccer ball) that keeps the ball on the ground (and at the players feet).
There will also be a skills competition, penalty shoot out, 4 v 4 tournament, and most valuable player award in each age group.
The program is directed by Aron Gyorgy. Aron has been coaching professionally for 10 years with all age groups and skill levels, and has played NCAA D1 soccer for St. Peter’s College (NJ). Coach Aron has worked for several club and high school programs in the DC area, including DC Stoddert and Arlington Travel Club, School Without Walls High School (DC) and has served as Director at multiple other soccer program. Aron has directed soccer camps most recently at Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School. Aron also directs a futsal clinic every winter at the Sidwell Friends School currently in its 4th year.
